Several thousand protesters gathered at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate to decry the far-right Alternative for Germany following the party's breakthrough victory in a regional election. Many said the party should be banned. Jessica Parker has this report. The AfD here in Saxony-Anhalt is classed by domestic intelligence as right-wing extremist. That is a designation the party rejects as it looks around as to ways that it might be able to form a government here in Saxony-Anhalt having just fallen short of getting a parliamentary majority. The AfD see themselves as a party that has momentum that is on the up, while the parties that oppose the AfD, they look like they're struggling for answers. The British government is to set out proposals later on Tuesday designed to ban goods made in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, including agricultural products. Last week, the Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband told MPs the government wanted to reset its policy on Israel. Paul Adams reports. Ed Miliband is set to go further than any of his predecessors in targeting Jewish settlements in the West Bank, settlements, successive British governments have described as illegal under international law and a barrier to peace. It's a significant moment coming almost a year after Sir Keir Starmer's government recognized the state of Palestine and said the U.K. had a moral responsibility to support a peaceful future for Israelis and Palestinians. The government believes the prospects for a two-state solution are being jeopardized by the rapid expansion of settlements. The men suspected of killing three tourists at a Mexican surfing hotspot have gone on trial in the northern Mexican surf town of Ensenada. Two Australian brothers, Jake and Callum Robinson, and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad, were on a surfing trip to Mexico's Pacific coast when they were shot dead. Their bodies were left in a well. Our Mexico correspondent is Will Grant. At the time, the killings shocked Australians as well as many residents of the normally peaceful town of Ensenada. Despite high levels of cartel violence in the northern Mexican border states, tourists are rarely targeted for such violent attacks in the surf towns of Baja California. As well as the murder charge, the defendants are facing charges of violent robbery and auto theft. Mexican prosecutors are pursuing jail sentences of more than 200 years for each of the defendants as well as an additional 168-year sentence for the alleged ringleader. The Eiffel Tower was forced to close on Monday after staff went on strike to protest against the sidelining and replacement of female staff during a visit by a conservative Hindu delegation. The operator of the Parisian landmark said the group had requested [Sun...] Saturday's private visit organized to limit interactions with women. Police in the Philippines have arrested a cousin of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. over alleged involvement in a massive corruption scandal tied to bogus flood control projects. Martin Romualdez, a member of the House of Representatives, is accused of false budgeting, amounting to over $100 million. He resigned as House Speaker last year. Investigators have recovered the flight data and cockpit voice recorders from the wreckage of an Amazon cargo plane that overran a runway at Miami International Airport. The Boeing 767 on a flight from Puerto Rico overshot the runway on Sunday afternoon. The aircraft crossed a perimeter road and struck vehicles, killing five people and injuring five others. The National Transportation Safety Board Chair is Jennifer Homendy. "You can see components from vehicles, both passenger vehicles and the aircraft itself, components of the navigational aids, debris from the airport and then certainly fencing everywhere. It's pretty extensive. Hard to see and I'm sure it must have been very difficult for the responders as well." The government of the Solomon Islands has suspended parliament indefinitely after the Prime Minister Matthew Wale survived an attempted no-confidence vote. The motion came just three months after his election [since] when the government has sought to shift the Pacific nation away from China and closer to the U.S. and Australia. And a study published in the science journal "The Lancet" says more than 2.7 billion people, including children, have been exposed to second-hand smoke globally, leading to over a million and a half premature deaths in 2023. The study points out that passive smoking is also a major cause of disability and heart disease, brought about by insufficient oxygen supply to the heart.
