Counting is underway in state elections in Saxony-Anhalt in former East Germany, where the far-right AfD party is on course to establish an emphatic lead over its rivals. Exit polls give the AfD more than 44 percent of the vote. It's not clear yet whether that would translate in a majority of seats. Jessica Parker reports from the state capital, Magdeburg. Populists, pro-Russia and anti-immigration, the AfD has led an energetic campaign in its small eastern state led by their charismatic frontman, Ulrich Siegmund. The possibilities include the AfD taking a majority in parliament, even though they appear just shy of that in an initial exit poll. Alternatively, could other parties try to cobble together some kind of minority coalition government, excluding the AfD? If so, that would likely fuel the AfD's claims that they are being wrongly kept from power by self-preserving establishments. Police in the U.S. city of Miami say at least five people were killed when an Amazon Prime Air cargo flight overran a runway while landing at Miami International Airport. The Miami-Dade County Sheriff, Rosie Cordero-Stutz, gave this statement to reporters. "At approximately 1:58 this afternoon, a cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport as it overran the runway number 30. It came to rest at a field adjacent to the airport. At this time, we can confirm that we have at least five deceased individuals and we have multiple individuals that were transported to local hospitals with unknown injuries." Airport officials have closed all runways and taxiways. The U.S. transport secretary warned travelers they should expect significant delays and potential cancellations. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he expects the war with Russia to continue into the winter. He was speaking after the first ever talks in Kyiv with Donald Trump's top envoys, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. There was no announcement of a major breakthrough but the Americans have held a second round of negotiations with Ukraine's president after they jointly briefed a group of European allies. Our correspondent James Landale in Kyiv assesses the impact of the talks. "I think what American and European negotiators will take from this is just how rigid both sides are. President Putin making it very clear that he's not stepping back from his maximalist war aims and equally President Zelenskyy making it clear that issues of giving up territory are incredibly difficult, matters for leaders only, all those kind of things. So when President Zelenskyy said today that he thought the fighting was gonna continue throughout the winter. I'm afraid most people here would probably agree with him. Rescue efforts are continuing to remove debris and find survivors under the rubble of a collapsed building in the Indian capital Delhi. At least five people have died and it's not clear how many are still trapped. Some eyewitnesses say up to 50. BBC News.
